Rapid Phosphate Reducer, Liquid Treatment to Quickly Remove Phosphates in Marine Aquarium
A highly concentrated solution to quickly bring down elevated phosphate levels in a marine aquarium. This product is recommended for advanced aquarists, please read the dosing note below.
IDEAL TANK LEVELS
Recommended ideal phosphate levels to maintain a healthy reef aquarium are typically between 0.05 – 0.10 ppm, but can vary depending on the type of species present. Each reef tank will have different requirements, and the ranges based on the type of reef tank inhabitants are recommended below:
- Hard stony coral dominant systems: Maintain 0.05 – 0.12 ppm
- LPS & soft coral systems: Between 0.15 – 0.20 ppm
- Mixed reefs: 0.05 – 0.10 ppm
DOSING NOTE
This product should NEVER be dosed directly into tank, as it can cause irritation and potentially lead to fish death if used improperly. For best results, dose slowly into the protein skimmer intake only. Alternatively, the product can be dosed into a filter sock or other mechanical filtration to help capture phosphate precipitate. Dosing via an automated doser should be handled carefully to ensure accuracy, and that the amount dosed does not exceed the daily maximum.
DOSING INSTRUCTIONS
Use an accurate testing kit to determine phosphate concentration in your tank. The maximum amount of product in milliliters (mL) to dose into your tank is 2.5 mL per 20 gallons daily, to decrease phosphates by 0.5 ppm.
This max can be calculated with the following formula:
Max Dose (mL) = (Tank gallons × Desired reduction in ppm) ÷ 4
Example:
To lower phosphates by 0.10 ppm in a 100 gallon tank:
(100 gallons × 0.10) ÷ 4 = 2.5 mL
The maximum daily dose in mL = (100 gallons × 0.10) ÷ 4 = 2.5 mL
Test phosphate levels after 24 hours and adjust dose as needed until levels are within the above suggested healthy ranges. Dosing more than the suggested max amount can result in too rapid of a phosphate decrease, which can adversely affect corals. Monitor alkalinity as you are dosing, since phosphate fluctuations can also impact alkalinity.
MAINTENANCE DOSAGE
For safest results, we recommend limiting use to an as-needed basis, once phosphates exceed 0.20 ppm. If used regularly, the active ingredient, lanthanum, can build up in your tank over time. Carefully monitor tank levels and perform regular ICP tests that include a reading for lanthanum.
